Young Creatives Challenge 2026 Equips Young People in South Sudan with Skills for Climate Action and Storytelling

JUBA, South Sudan — Ahead of the official launch of the Young Creatives Challenge 2026, the Eden Foundation convened a one-day capacity-building workshop at Scenius Hub in Juba, bringing together 25 students from six secondary schools for training focused on creative expression, climate awareness, and youth leadership.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen youth participation in sustainable development and climate action in South Sudan by equipping young people with practical knowledge and communication skills that can contribute to positive social and environmental change.

The workshop introduced participants to key thematic areas including creative writing, climate literacy, sustainability, leadership, communication skills, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate action, and the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in storytelling and innovation.

Through interactive learning sessions, mentorship, and group discussions, students explored how storytelling and creativity can be used to raise awareness on climate-related challenges affecting communities across South Sudan, including floods, displacement, environmental degradation, and loss of livelihoods.

Speaking during the workshop, representatives from Eden Foundation emphasized the importance of investing in youth-led solutions and creating platforms that enable young people to contribute meaningfully to national and global conversations on sustainability and development.

“The Young Creatives Challenge goes beyond competition. It is about empowering young people to become informed communicators, critical thinkers, and future leaders capable of driving change within their communities,” the organization stated.

Participants were encouraged to use writing, storytelling, and innovation as tools for advocacy, education, and community engagement while promoting values of environmental stewardship, resilience, and social responsibility.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of integrating climate literacy and sustainability education into youth-focused initiatives to support long-term awareness and action aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Eden Foundation expressed appreciation to all facilitators, teachers, partners, and students who contributed to the success of the event, reaffirming its commitment to supporting youth empowerment, climate education, and inclusive community development in South Sudan.

The Young Creatives Challenge 2026 is expected to provide a platform for young people across the country to showcase their creativity while contributing to conversations on sustainability, climate action, and positive social transformation.
