Young Creatives Challenge 2026 Empowering South Sudan’s Next Generation of Storytellers and Climate Leaders

Young people remain at the center of shaping a more sustainable and resilient future for South Sudan. Through creativity, innovation, and leadership, they have the power to influence communities, raise awareness, and inspire meaningful social transformation.

To strengthen youth participation in climate action and sustainable development, Eden Foundation South Sudan launched the Young Creatives Challenge 2026, a youth-focused initiative designed to empower secondary school students through creative expression, climate literacy, leadership development, and communication skills.

The project was created to provide young people with a platform to explore how storytelling, writing, and innovation can contribute to conversations around sustainability, environmental protection, and community development in South Sudan.

As part of the initiative, Eden Foundation organized a one-day capacity-building workshop on 9th May 2026 at Scenius Hub in Juba. The workshop brought together 25 students from six secondary schools for intensive training sessions focused on creative writing, climate literacy, sustainability, leadership, communication skills, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate action, and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in storytelling and innovation.

Through interactive learning sessions, mentorship, and group discussions, participants explored how creativity can be used as a tool for advocacy, education, and social impact. Students discussed environmental and social challenges affecting communities across South Sudan, including floods, displacement, environmental degradation, and loss of livelihoods, while identifying ways young people can contribute to solutions.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of investing in youth-led ideas and creating spaces where young people can confidently express themselves, develop leadership skills, and actively participate in national conversations on sustainability and development.

“The Young Creatives Challenge goes beyond competition. It is about empowering young people to become informed communicators, critical thinkers, innovators, and future leaders capable of driving change within their communities,” Eden Foundation stated.

Following the successful workshop, the project later culminated in the Young Creatives Challenge 2026 Award Ceremony held on 21 May 2026 at the University of Juba Innovation Hub (UNIPOD).

The award ceremony served as a celebration of creativity, innovation, and youth leadership, bringing together students, teachers, mentors, facilitators, partners, and young leaders from different secondary schools across Juba.

The event created a platform for continued discussions around climate action, sustainability, leadership, creative writing, communication, Artificial Intelligence in storytelling, and the role of young people in shaping the future of South Sudan.

Throughout the initiative, participants demonstrated remarkable confidence, creativity, curiosity, and passion, reaffirming the immense potential that exists among South Sudanese youth when provided with opportunities, mentorship, and support.

At Eden Foundation, creativity is viewed as a powerful tool for social transformation. A story can inspire action. A poem can raise awareness. A young voice can influence communities and contribute to lasting change.

The Foundation extended appreciation to The Achol Philip Foundation, teachers, facilitators, mentors, volunteers, and partners whose contributions supported the successful implementation of the project.
