Nyajuma Climate Education Programme Extends to Schools Across Juba

Nyajuma climate education books delivered to St. Lawrence Primary School and Juba Diplomatic Primary School

Juba, South Sudan, 4 September 2026: As part of the Nyajuma Children’s Climate Education Programme 2026, Eden Foundation South Sudan, in partnership with The Achol Philip Foundation, conducted school engagement visits to St. Lawrence Primary School and Juba Diplomatic Primary School in Juba.

The visits formed part of the programme's ongoing efforts to strengthen climate and environmental education among children and create opportunities for learners to engage with issues affecting their communities and environment.

During the two school visits, copies of the Nyajuma climate education books were formally handed over to the school libraries.

The Nyajuma books serve as a key educational resource under the programme, supporting children and teachers to explore climate change, environmental protection, sustainability and practical approaches to environmental stewardship in an accessible and age appropriate way.

Bringing Climate Education Closer to Learners

The school visits provided an opportunity for Eden Foundation and The Achol Philip Foundation to engage directly with school communities and strengthen the role of schools as spaces for climate awareness and environmental learning.

The programme recognises that children and young people are important stakeholders in addressing environmental challenges. Providing learners with relevant knowledge and educational resources can help them better understand the relationship between environmental conditions, climate change and the wellbeing of their communities.

By making the Nyajuma books available through school libraries, the programme also seeks to ensure that the learning materials remain accessible to pupils and teachers beyond the programme activities themselves.

Turning Learning into Action

In addition to the handover of educational resources, tree planting exercises were conducted at both schools.

The activities provided pupils and school communities with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with practical environmental action.

Tree planting is one of the practical activities through which the programme encourages learners to engage with environmental stewardship and develop a stronger understanding of the importance of trees and healthy ecosystems.

The combination of educational resources and practical activities reflects the programme's broader approach to climate education, which seeks to connect knowledge with participation and action.

Strengthening School Based Climate Awareness

The engagement with St. Lawrence Primary School and Juba Diplomatic Primary School builds on the official launch of the Nyajuma Children’s Climate Education Programme 2026, which took place on 3 September at C.M.S Primary School in Juba.

Together, the school engagements provide an opportunity to reach learners across participating schools in Juba and establish a foundation for continued climate education activities.

The programme will continue beyond Central Equatoria, with planned activities in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal, and Bor, Jonglei State, expanding opportunities for children in different parts of South Sudan to participate in climate and environmental education.
